The longest tunnel of this route is at Barog and it is 3,760 feet long. Around two- thirds of the whole track is on curves, and some of them are as sharp as 48 degrees.

The train takes the break at some of the stations namely Dharampur, Jabli, Barog, Salogra, Kandaghat, Solan and Taradevi. The Shivalik Deluxe Express, which is also known as the narrow-gauge Shatabdi, caters to the clientele properly. The Shivalik Deluxe Express was started in the year 1996 in the month of July; this Shivalik Deluxe Express runs regularly nine months during the year and gives lots of pleasure to the passengers.

Baijnath Temple Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is land of Gods and Goddesses and encloses in numerous temples and shrines in its premises. One of most famous and highly visited sacred places is “Baijnath Temple” which lies in the Dhauladhar range in the western part of the Himalayas. Baijnath basically is a name of a small town situated in the district of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and is located almost 51 kilometers away from Dharamshala. This town is situated almost in the middle of the way of the two towns of Kangra and Mandi.

It is here in Baijnath town that the 13th century constructed ancient Shiva Temple “Baijnath” is situated which is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Vaidyanath epitome which means “the lord of physicians” and because of this fact, the water of this sacred temple is thought to have medicinal properties that can cure ailments which brings millions of people here every year. This beautiful temple depicts the magnificent artwork of the medieval period known as the Nagara style of temple architecture.

Since its construction in the year 1204 A.D., the Baijnath temple has been worshiped continuously. It is believed that the temple existed here even before the construction of the current temple and evidence of this are the two long inscriptions that are on the porch of the temple.

The temple holds a great importance in the Hindu religion and it’s believed that the Shivlinga, which is found in Svayambhu form with five projections on all sides and is roofed by a Shikhara, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas as per the legends. It is believed that the Shivlinga of this temple was established here by a trick played by Devas for deceiving revenue.

Every morning and evening here witness special prayers which are offered to the deity besides special occasions and festivals. Maha -Shivaratri is celebrated every year at this temple and a state level function is organized for five days. Along with is a number of other sacred days are celebrated with great enthusiasm and majesty which include Makara Sankranti, Shravana Mondays, Vaisakha Sankranti etc.

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass – A Must Go If You Are Visiting Himanchal Pradesh in India

Rohtang Pass situated at an altitude 13,051 ft (3,978 m) is a high mountain pass on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas some 51 km from Manali. It connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh, India. The Beas River rises near the crest of Rohtang from a block of Mica-Schist. To its left, 200 metres higher, is the little lake of ‘Sarkund’ (Dashahr) visited by a large number of people every year. The bath in the water of Sarkund lake effects cures of all bodily ailments or imaginary.

It was not particularly high or difficult to cross on foot by Himalayan standards, but it had a well-deserved reputation for being dangerous because of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards. Some linguists say that the name ‘rohtang’ is a Persian word meaning pile of dead bodies. The road through the Kullu Valley, past Manali and over the Rohtang Pass to Keylong, and Lahul and on to Ladakh, has become very busy during the summer months as an alternate a military route following the Kargil Conflict in 1999 in addition to tensions in Kashmir. Traffic jams are a common sight as military vehicles, trucks and goods carriers try to navigate the tight roads and rough terrain, compounded by, snow and ice at certain points and the large number of tourists vehicles. There are a lot of dhabas and eateries along the way.

The pass is open from May to November and closes down during the winter season due to heavy snow-fall and storms in this region.

The tourist point at Rohtang Pass is called Snow Point and is quite famous as it offers quite a few options for the adventure seekers. Here you can enjoy skiing, trekking, Ice skating and other snow activities. The area is full of snow so if you are travelling with kids, be very careful as the area is slippery. You can also have fun making snow houses, snow balls in the chilling weather. At this spot there are a couple of small shacks which make yummy tea and pakoras.

On the way to Rohtang pass you get to see some scenic beauty worth a thousand clicks and you also get to see lot of frozen waterfalls if you are travelling in the month of October or early November. There are options available for some paragliding as well if you are interested, but you need to take a slight de-route to reach the flat landing from where these are arranged on the way to Rohtang Pass.

You get special winter wear and boots on rent to take for your trip to Rohtang pass, as temperature here is in sub-zero degrees almost round the year. Ensure you arrange for these before you leave Manali, coz you would get these on rent even at Rohtang pass but for around double the cost.

This place is definitely worth a visit for its sheer beauty and natural abundance and as this doesn’t have any other attractions, you can easily take a day off to travel to Rohtang Pass and back from Manali.

And it clearly means that visitors can enjoy culture and traditions derived from both the states. Doesn’t it sound enthralling? Don’t you want to visit this place with family and friends?

Many of you may not be aware of this fact but Chandigarh is known as “Pensioner’s Paradise”. This phrase undoubtedly sounds rosy but there is a reason behind giving this name to Chandigarh. Since Chandigarh serves as a capital for two states, primarily three governments work actively in the city. As a result, a large percentage of the population is either employed in government organizations or retired from these organizations. And this is the reason why it is called “Pensioner’s Paradise”. So, if you wish to catch a glimpse of the city with the highest per capita income, plan a visit to Chandigarh at the earliest possible.

On your visit to Chandigarh, there are various tourist spots that can be visited. Some of the popular spots include:

Travel Quotes

Things to be kept in Mind before Traveling to Hill Stations

Firstly, check for the climatic conditions as you don’t want it to be raining throughout the day and also avoid going to the hill stations during summers. Different seasons have different things to offer and therefore, plan accordingly.

Book your tickets well in advance. Check for the modes of travel and be aware of the distance between the pickup points and the destinations and check if transportation has to be arranged. Public transportation helps explore places in a local way and you might be able to see more that way.

Decide on the number of days you want to spend in that particular place when you plan. Sometimes guides will be of great help as they will know the place better. Even though there is so much information available on the net, if you are one of those who’d like to explore a place, there will always be more options available locally. Ask the locals for what they would do if they go around the place. Avoid planning your days tightly. The number of items in your to-do list can increase. Prioritize according to your interests.

Treks are one of the most dos when you visit a hill station. You might be able to find trials used by the locals which can be explored by yourself or rent a guide who would be able to help.

Most important of all is budgeting. Also, plan your accommodation accordingly. You will be able to find a lot of website on the net which would provide you with a lot of options and rates.
Check if you would like to pay for your food along with your accommodation or if you’d like to taste the local shops before doing so.

Another one of the main things to keep in mind is that weather conditions change. Check the weather forecast a few days before leaving and it would be of great help. If it’s going to rain heavily, carry rain wear and a pair of extra clothes. They will be of great help.

Always carry a camera with you when you are traveling as you might come across interesting thing. You might not be a photographer but you’ll be able to capture some memories of the good times.
