One of most famous and highly visited sacred places is “Baijnath Temple” which lies in the Dhauladhar range in the western part of the Himalayas. Baijnath basically is a name of a small town situated in the district of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and is located almost 51 kilometers away from Dharamshala. This town is situated almost in the middle of the way of the two towns of Kangra and Mandi.

It is here in Baijnath town that the 13th century constructed ancient Shiva Temple “Baijnath” is situated which is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Vaidyanath epitome which means “the lord of physicians” and because of this fact, the water of this sacred temple is thought to have medicinal properties that can cure ailments which brings millions of people here every year. Since its construction in the year 1204 A.D., the Baijnath temple has been worshiped continuously. It is believed that the temple existed here even before the construction of the current temple and evidence of this are the two long inscriptions that are on the porch of the temple.

The temple holds a great importance in the Hindu religion and it’s believed that the Shivlinga, which is found in Svayambhu form with five projections on all sides and is roofed by a Shikhara, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas as per the legends. It is believed that the Shivlinga of this temple was established here by a trick played by Devas for deceiving revenue.

Every morning and evening here witness special prayers which are offered to the deity besides special occasions and festivals. Maha -Shivaratri is celebrated every year at this temple and a state level function is organized for five days. Along with is a number of other sacred days are celebrated with great enthusiasm and majesty which include Makara Sankranti, Shravana Mondays, Vaisakha Sankranti etc.

Honeymoon in the valley by the lofty mountains and red rhododendrons may sound like a picture torn from a romance novel but that special feeling really exists.

Life can be indeed a fairy tale romance when you rattle through the snow by a colonial train. A train ride up to Shimla from Delhi during the winters is the perfect thing to kick off your honeymoon. And a different world waits at the end of those snow covered railway tracks. A languid evening by the fire place in a well maintained hotel is a common activity in Shimla as the place is full of specially designed honeymoon accommodations. Further, strolling the famous Mall Road with your partner hand in hand or riding on a Yak in Kufri, in the upper Shimla- a honeymoon in Shimla can be the most beautiful to happen to you.

These days, honeymoon in Himachal Pradesh has been made further special by the addition of many adventure sports activities where couples can explore their wilder sides by paragliding over the breathtaking valleys or hiking in the wining pathways. For those seeing more privacy and solitude, picnic spots away from popular towns like Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala can be a better option. Cottages and special spa facilities are also available in different isolated spots where the only sound you hear is of the gurgling rivers and frolicking birds and the chuckles of your partner.

A spa experience is probably the ultimate honeymoon experience where you get to combine the benefits of the Himalayan climate, Ayurveda and great company. The result is a relaxed and happy you. Thus, when you return from an exotic honeymoon in the Himachal, the only thing you remember is the bliss you were gifted with. And what can be a better option than shopping to make your partner happy and ask yourself in the glory of togetherness.

Although, it is not necessary to seek romance outside the confinements of your daily life, a gateway definitely helps in putting together the special parts of your life. Thus, celebrating your honeymoon in the wilderness is the most beneficial exercise you can effortlessly perform.

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass – A Must Go If You Are Visiting Himanchal Pradesh in India

Rohtang Pass situated at an altitude 13,051 ft (3,978 m) is a high mountain pass on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas some 51 km from Manali. It connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh, India. The Beas River rises near the crest of Rohtang from a block of Mica-Schist. To its left, 200 metres higher, is the little lake of ‘Sarkund’ (Dashahr) visited by a large number of people every year. The bath in the water of Sarkund lake effects cures of all bodily ailments or imaginary.

It was not particularly high or difficult to cross on foot by Himalayan standards, but it had a well-deserved reputation for being dangerous because of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards. Some linguists say that the name ‘rohtang’ is a Persian word meaning pile of dead bodies. The road through the Kullu Valley, past Manali and over the Rohtang Pass to Keylong, and Lahul and on to Ladakh, has become very busy during the summer months as an alternate a military route following the Kargil Conflict in 1999 in addition to tensions in Kashmir. Traffic jams are a common sight as military vehicles, trucks and goods carriers try to navigate the tight roads and rough terrain, compounded by, snow and ice at certain points and the large number of tourists vehicles. There are a lot of dhabas and eateries along the way.

The pass is open from May to November and closes down during the winter season due to heavy snow-fall and storms in this region.

The tourist point at Rohtang Pass is called Snow Point and is quite famous as it offers quite a few options for the adventure seekers. Here you can enjoy skiing, trekking, Ice skating and other snow activities. The area is full of snow so if you are travelling with kids, be very careful as the area is slippery. You can also have fun making snow houses, snow balls in the chilling weather. At this spot there are a couple of small shacks which make yummy tea and pakoras.

On the way to Rohtang pass you get to see some scenic beauty worth a thousand clicks and you also get to see lot of frozen waterfalls if you are travelling in the month of October or early November. There are options available for some paragliding as well if you are interested, but you need to take a slight de-route to reach the flat landing from where these are arranged on the way to Rohtang Pass.

You get special winter wear and boots on rent to take for your trip to Rohtang pass, as temperature here is in sub-zero degrees almost round the year. Ensure you arrange for these before you leave Manali, coz you would get these on rent even at Rohtang pass but for around double the cost.

This place is definitely worth a visit for its sheer beauty and natural abundance and as this doesn’t have any other attractions, you can easily take a day off to travel to Rohtang Pass and back from Manali.
